Personal hygiene more than just being clean. It is the  practice that help people be and stay healthy.

Good personal hygiene is the habit of keeping all parts of the external body clean and healthy regularly. Maintaining both physical and mental health is very important.

Good personal hygiene is the measure of practice that helps and prevent people from catching and spreading illness and disease, and also helps them to feel good about themselves and their bodies, poor personal hygiene is unacceptable and unhealthy.


Types Of Personal Hygiene

Hand Washing

Regular washing of hand is very important which is one of the best ways to avoid spreading communicable diseases.

The Nigeria Centers for Disease Control a (NCDC) recommend washing the hands at certain times:

  • Before, during, and after preparing food
  • Before eating food
  • Before and after taken care of anyone who is vomiting or has diarrhea
  • Before and after treating injuries
  • After going to the bathroom
  • After blowing the nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • After touching waste, dirty surfaces or objects
  • After handling pets or domestic animals.

Body

Regular proper bath helps the body and prevent skin irritation, as well as getting ride of the bacteria that cause body odor.

today with the help of hygiene products many people go above and beyond just washing the body but use different types  that will keep the body smelling and feeling fresh.

Nails

Fingernails harbor germs and dirt, contributing to the spread of bacteria. It is easier for germs and dirt to harbor under longer nails, so keeping them short helps reduce the risk of spreading infections.

Dental

Dental hygiene isn't all about just having clean teeth. Good dental hygiene habit also help to prevent issues such as gum disease and cavities. It also prevent mouth odor and bad breath.

The (ADA)  American Dental Association recommend brushing the teeth twice for 2 minutes a daily. Before breakfast and before bed.

ADA-accepted fluoride is the recommended toothpaste for use and  toothbrush should be replace every 3–4 months. Daily floss is advisable.

maintaining good personal hygiene is the key to build a routine. Everyone should have a basic knowledge of the following types of hygiene.


Factors Negatively Affecting Personal Hygiene

  • Proper Education, lack of good education is one of the big factors affecting hygiene.
  • Poverty is the major cause of poor hygiene because it contributes to every other factor.
  • Lack of clean water can have a detrimental effect on a person's personal hygiene.
  • Mental health of a person also affect how they take care of themselves. People with certain conditions, such as a psychotic disorder, severe depression, drug and alcohol use disorder, may find it very difficult to keep up a personal hygiene routine.

There are many health implications of having poor personal hygiene, with the following as hygiene-related diseases:

  • Set reminders: Usage of alarms on a cell phone can be a great way to avoid forgetting any tasks.
  • Use of nice toiletries: Using products that smell good also encourage people to stick to their personal hygiene routine.
